Dipper and Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls)

I love drawing ponies, but I never want to get burnt out from drawing them and for a while I want to upload something else. It's happened on and off in the past with some Adventure Time art, but not much more than that. But I promise myself I will upload more non-MLP stuff to my account, however it shall remain a majority of ponies in my gallery! 

Alongside MLP and Adventure Time, I love Gravity Falls! Amazingly I only started watching the show barely a month ago but I absolutely adore the show to bits. The characters are extremely likeable and well developed and I found there not to be one episode I personally disliked and honestly I wished I watched it sooner!

So anyway these are the two main characters of the show for those who aren't familiar with it. Their names are Dipper and Mabel Pines, known as the Mystery Twins as the whole premise of the show is that they discover mysteries and secrets across the town of Gravity Falls whilst staying in Tourist Trap run by their Great Uncle named Stan Pines. Dipper is a more down to earth type boy, whilst Mabel is a genki girl. They're (obviously) both 12 years old, but Mabel is slightly older of the two, being born first. 

With this self critique I'll be doing it by character and then the twins together. 

Dipper:

I drew him first and between the two of the twins, he's slightly more challenging. I found his face quite tricky to do at first but surprisingly I had a bit of trouble with his shoes despite the fact they look quite simplistic. The fringe on his hair was a bit tricky as well and it took me a couple of tries to get it right. 

On a positive note however I like how his arms and hands look and thankfully he looks great for a first try!

Mabel:

Out of the twins Mabel was definitely the easier of the two to draw and also more fun. However because she was easier, she didn't feel as rewarding as drawing her brother. A (minor) problem here is that she looks a bit bigger compared to Dipper, and from his perspective it looks like his sister in further in the foreground xD The lineart on her is not great either, as you can see on her hair. And like with Dipper, I find Mabel's shoes annoying to draw, but hers look worse than his. 

A positive with Mabel though is that the mouth looks great, which I was bit anxious to do and she looks pretty accurate to the picture I referenced. I like her sweater but if you've never watched the show, that's not her default outfit which is something I really like with the series!

The twins together:

I'm not really a fan when I directly reference images for drawings. It's not a crime to do it and there is nothing wrong with doing it, but I definitely prefer coming up with something unique. Mind you this was a first time drawing Gravity Falls art so I can excuse myself at least I don't really like the names in the middle of the page, but when I drew Dipper, I drew him small enough to make sure I have space for Mabel (I never draw twins separately, with one exception...) but it worked too well and I had space in the middle for something extra, so I drew their names. Meh, I should have done it how it appears in the intro, but that was a missed opportunity sadly. 

As for the pros, they overall look fantastic for a first try! I'm so pleased with how it came out in the end. The colouring is fantastic and it's so fun to colour as well. It's nice to have a rather simplistic colour scheme and my favourite part was colouring the hair. Especially Dipper's for some reason. I prefer the shading on Mabel overall though. But in short the twins are fantastic and they look fantastic from me!
